The Big News!
Let's start by getting the big news out of the way... I'm pregnant!
On Friday, June 7, I had a girls' night planned with two of my best friends for a spa night and dinner out.
I was about 2 days late at that point, but thought "it is way too soon to do a pregnancy test - just hold out another week"; however, my dear friend Anita called me that day and said she just "had a feeling" and that I should do a test.
At around 4:00 that afternoon (had to leave the house at 5:30 that evening for girls' night), I took Anita's advice and did the test and.... BAM. Positive! I was SO excited I was shaking!
I always thought I'd tell my husband, Trey in some cute and creative way. I certainly didn't want to tell him over the phone while he was at work, knowing that I wouldn't see him for the whole evening.
I needed to talk to someone and there was only one option: my sister and best friend in the world, Stacey. When I called her, I told her it was a bit early to know for sure and that I should maybe do another test. She was amazing - kept me calm, and told me to call her as soon as I had done another test.
I quickly ran out, bought 4 more pregnancy tests, and did them all. Positive, positive, positive and... positive!!!
Right after that, I called Stacey, who was immediately in tears. She is going to make a great Aunt. I knew I only had about 30 minutes to prepare my creative way to tell Trey that we were going to have a baby!
I put together a small box. Inside it was a pale green and white striped bunting bag and baby hat, a "baby on board" sticker, and the positive pregnancy test. I tucked it away into the back of my closet, and ran out to girls' night. Trey arrived home just as I was climbing into my car and it was SO hard to just give him a quick kiss and act like everything was normal.
It was also very difficult not to tell two of my closest friends when I was spending the entire evening with them, especially so soon after getting the news myself.
When I got home, Trey was in the attic doing some work. I kept saying "Come downstairs so we can watch a movie together", but he was so wrapped up in his construction project that it took him about 45 minutes to come and say hi. I told him I had a small "package" for him. He tells me now that he thought I brought back some dessert from my dinner out with the girls. When he opened it up, it took a moment for it to register and then he just kept saying "FOR REAL?? ARE YOU SERIOUS??!!" - it was my favourite! He had the biggest smile on his face and it was a total surprise!
So, here we go... time to start tracking this journey. Each week I will post a photo, some updates, and a little questionnaire about my pregnancy journey. Of course, I am starting this at 6 weeks (and won't be making the blog public until after my 12-week check up), so I'll have to play a bit of catch up, but I think I can sum it all up succinctly!
I should also say that Trey and I have recently given the nickname "Squish" to our baby, since we won't be finding out the sex of the baby and it is hard to keep calling the baby "it". We just had to give Baby G a nickname! Hence the blog title "Mama & Squish".
Thanks for following along!
