Size of baby: Not-so-little Squishy is the size of a coconut! Somewhere between 17 and 19" long and likely close to 6 lbs. At my last appointment my bump had not grown at all, so at my next ultrasound they will do a growth analysis to make sure everything is ok. Likely it was because my last doctor's appointment was pushed up closer to the previous one, so it wasn't the same time period between appointments.
Weight gain: I was concerned with the Christmas weight gain but I only went up 2 lbs this week, which was about the same as the last. From here on out I should gain about 1/2 a pound per week as baby beefs up, so that should be fun! I have definitely started gaining weight in my face (ugh, it ALWAYS goes there) and I told Trey I am going to just be like Kim Kardashian now - I'm gonna do my hair every day and pile on the makeup to distract from my chubbiness (haha)!
Development / Movement: Growing like crazy! Here is a funny (and totally nuts) fact: at this point, my uterus has grown to 1,000 times its normal size! Holy cow! No wonder I have round ligament pain. Baby won't get much longer between now and birth, but will be plumping up like crazy, putting on a pound or two of baby fat before we get to meet him/her. Hearing is fully developed, as are the circulatory and musculoskeletal systems. Baby's lungs are also now mature!
Sleep: About the same. I never get an amazing sleep. There is always a lot of pain and discomfort. I can't even roll over without help half the time. I get up often to pee or to readjust my position since my hands and feet are so swollen and constantly falling asleep. Some days I get up around 4am and can't go back to sleep. All of that being said, when I'm asleep, I am sleeping deeply and really well. Given all of these "challenges", most mornings I wake up feeling pretty well-rested.
Also in this category, I should mention that my first trimester afternoon naps are back! It is becoming more and more common that I'm in desperate need of some shut-eye by about 2 or 3 pm. I'm finding the exhaustion is really kicking in.
What I miss: Being un-pregnant, mostly. Haha! I love being pregnant and I'm going to miss feeling this little kicker 24/7. I do miss my normal life, my workouts, my agile body. This is becoming a theme. I am also missing poached eggs again lately.
Best moment this week: Doctor's appointment Monday was a clear high - and here's why: Trey came with me for the first time since my very first appointment, because we knew we would have to discuss ECV if Squish was still breech. It was nice having him there. The good news was that the doctor is 90% certain that BABY HAS FLIPPED!!! Feeling around my pelvic bone for the head was causing a ton of intense pain (stupid round ligament again), so he didn't want to continue for too long - but he was fairly certain he felt the head down below and has ordered an ultrasound for tomorrow morning at the hospital to make sure. Of course, I had gotten somewhat used to the idea that we may have to have a C-section and so if it becomes necessary, I think I'm more prepared for that - but we are absolutely thrilled that I will (very likely) have the opportunity to at least attempt a natural birth.
Other good moments this week: I took Diana for a mani/pedi on Monday for her birthday (which we also celebrated on Friday with a lunch out at Beach House, Diana, Anita and I - and the boys). We celebrated New Year's Eve at home with Anita, Jeff, Linden and Rufuss. We had a fondue dinner, hung out in our PJs, and actually made it to midnight! They slept over, so we had a lovely brunch in the morning. New Year's Day was also nice, as Trey was home from work. We had a nap, watched a movie, and had the laziest day in a long time. In fact, on New Year's Day I even snuck in a second nap around dinner time (shhh)!
Friday night, Renee and Stu came for dinner and we made homemade pasta together, which was fun (and delicious). They brought us a very cute baby book called "An Awesome Book". We always have fun with those guys! This morning I had a brunch date with the hubs at Beach House. He has never been, and it was a delicious brunch. Good week this week!
Looking forward to: Obviously the ultrasound on Monday is one of the big ones. We have dinner plans on Monday with two other couples, but absolutely no other plans this coming week, which means I'm going to be TAKING IT EASY. Trey and I spent the day taking down all of our Christmas decorations yesterday (if you know me, you'll understand why it took the entire day), but it was nice to get that done and get the house cleaned up and back to normal, as sad and empty as the house feels. I may take on a couple of easy projects this week like cooking freezer meals, sewing some minor adjustments to my baby shower dress, or prepping address labels for our baby announcements, but nothing major.
Next Sunday (January 12th) is my Vancouver baby shower! Anita has so generously offered to host it and I know it is going to be amazing. I'm so, SO looking forward to it. I even bought a new maternity dress for it. I'm so thankful for her and I can't wait to see all of my girls!
Cravings: Same! ORANGES! This morning we bought a box of clementines and a huge bag of navel oranges. We looked ridiculous purchasing about 25 oranges in one go!
Symptoms/Labour Symptoms: Same aches, pains, and swelling, which can be pretty unbearable a lot of the time. No stretch marks yet (phew! Knock on wood again). My belly button now pops out a little, which I weirdly think is cute. I kind of hope it remains a half-innie-half-outie, but I know that's not likely. I'm having a ton of Braxton Hicks contractions, but no signs of labour yet.
I've started counting down to the due date in days instead of weeks. For some reason that makes it feel shorter. We are only 2 weeks from full term, and 34 days from our due date. For the first time, I don't feel like I have a million things left to do before baby comes. Our hospital bags are packed, all of my many baby blankets that I was sewing are complete, hospital pre-registration forms filled out and sent in. Nursery is fully equipped. The house is clean and organized (there is always something, but none of the major jobs we had on our list).
I will likely post a mid-week update once we have had our ultrasound and subsequent follow-up appointment with the doctor. Would be a good time to do a post on packing hospital bags, too. In the meantime, have a great week everybody!
