36 Weeks

36 weeks = 9 months!  I still can't believe it.

Size of baby:  Squishy is as big as a honeydew melon (although most people say a basketball at this stage)!  Nearly 19" long and, according to my recent ultrasound, weight is estimated at 7 lbs 8 ounces.

Weight gain: Up another 3 lbs.  I have been asking the doctor why I feel like I've gained more than I should have and now we know - the baby is extra-large sized!  He says not to worry and that I'm still in the average range.

Development / Movement:  Baby really could arrive any day now and, if he/she did, would likely be able to breathe without assistance.  Baby's skin is getting smooth as Squishy plumps up.  Liver and kidneys are in working order, as well as circulation and immune systems.

Sleep:  Sleep is challenging.  It really hasn't changed much.  I'm often waking up to excruciating pain, plus several bathroom trips per night.  When I'm asleep, I sleep soundly.  Plus I'm allowing myself the odd nap, should my body tell me I need one.

What I miss:  High heels.  I'm going to my baby shower today and wish I could wear some sexy heels!  No deal at this point.  Not only is my balance way off, but my feet don't fit into anything I own.

Best moment this week:  Finding out that baby is 100% head-down.  Dinner with friends Monday night to celebrate Diana's birthday was fun.  On Wednesday I had a lunch date with Trey at Joe Fortes and then an afternoon tea and visit with Angela, who I have not seen in a while.  Always good to catch up with Ang!

Looking forward to:  My Vancouver baby shower!  I'm on my way there right now!  It will be so nice to see everyone and I know Anita has been planning and working on this for MONTHS so I can't wait to see what she has come up with.  I know it is going to be fabulous!

Cravings:  Should I take out this category?  Oranges are the only thing I crave... although last week I asked Trey for some ice cream.

Symptoms/Labour Symptoms:  Same as last week.  I'm having Braxton Hicks contractions, but no major signs that things are moving ahead.  At my doctor's appointment he checked me out and basically said that everything was still buttoned up tight (that's the politest way I can think to put it without going into too much detail).  Round ligament pain is consistent and preventing me from doing much moving around at all... plus it is still coming to me at night in the form of severe attacks.  Trey has been wonderful and will rub my back or hold my hand while I'm trying to get through them, but it really is the worst pain I think I've had to date.  Now here is where everyone gets to comment "It is your body's way of preparing you for labour" (haha).

Have a great week, guys!  We are now only 1 week away from full term and 28 days from due date!  I will post baby shower photos next week!
