37 Weeks - FULL TERM!

Baby Squish is officially full-term!  This means that baby is welcome to come at any time, although most likely won't be here until closer to the due date (February 8, in case you didn't know)!

Size of baby:  Baby is the size of a winter melon.  Another somewhat random fruit.  When I looked up other comparisons, the only other one I found as "a bunch of swiss chard" (haha)!   Baby measures between 19 and 21" long, and weighs 6.2 to 9.2 lbs (woah).  As I mentioned last week, they estimated baby at that time to be about 7.8 lbs.  At this point, baby gains about 1/2 an ounce per day, so what's that?  Around 8 lbs now?

Weight gain: I am actually down 1/2 a lb this week.  Probably a little bit of my Christmas weight has gone bye-bye (thank you).  Doctor says not to worry.  Baby has now done most of his/her major growing and it is ok if I only gain or lose small amounts from now on.

Development / Movement:  Squish has now developed the most crucial functions and will only get bigger and stronger over the next few weeks.  Baby is practicing some new skills -
inhaling, exhaling, sucking, gripping and blinking.  I often feel the hiccups, too.  I would argue that Squishy is also practicing skills related to soccer, dance and karate, as this little critter is constantly kicking and punching me!

Sleep:  Sleep is actually not as bad as I would expect.  I have found that propping my belly up with a pillow so that it doesn't pull so hard to one side has helped with the middle of the night round ligament "attacks" (knock on wood), and I haven't had as many charlie horses or as much heartburn lately (knock on wood again and again).  I do get up multiple times per night to go to the bathroom, but that's unavoidable.... but I'm not sleeping too badly, all things considered.  I've also been taking naps when I need them, which helps a lot.

What I miss:  High heels still!  Date night last night and I was dying to put on some 7" pumps, but that will come soon enough.  As you can see (below), I wore them for the photo but I wasn't "allowed" to wear them out to dinner.  Truly, I would be worried about falling since my balance is so off anyway.  So I stuffed my swollen cankles into some sparkly flats for the night.

I'm also about ready for my first glass of wine.  Again, now that we are so close to the finish line, I am not having too much trouble waiting out the next few weeks.

Most of all, I miss the gym.  I have some great DVDs to do at home after baby arrives (there's no way I'm going to be able to actually go to the gym for a little while, but I do want to get back into my routine - and my old body).

Best moment this week:  The best part generally about this week was that it was slower and more relaxing than the last few.  The best event this past week was obviously my baby shower on Sunday.  Anita went above and beyond.  It was so beautiful.  I couldn't even tell you about all of the amazing and special little touches that went into it.  Being surrounded by my closest girlfriends was just awesome and we definitely felt the love for Squishy that day.  The rest of the week I did things like go to Superstore and stock up on diapers, clean the house, have naps, repack a few things in the hospital bags, etc.  It is nice to finally have the chance to REALLY put my feet up when I need it most.  Last night, Trey and I had a date night.  We went to Fish Works (our favourite North Shore restaurant) for a "drink" and then to Arm's Reach Bistro in Deep Cove (the site of our first date) for dinner.  It could be one of our last date nights as a couple without children - crazy to think of it that way!

Looking forward to:  This weekend, Trey and I are going to spend lots of time together and relax.  We did a good job of it last Saturday, sleeping in and watching movies.  We feel totally lazy and useless doing it, but there will only be so many days left for us to really just hang out together and enjoy quiet time (at least for the next several years), so we have to make the most of it!  First, this morning we have brunch with the Ashtons at Beach House (yummy)! Tomorrow I'm meeting Nafeesa for a morning tea date and then in the afternoon, Trey and I have couples massages booked!  This coming week it is Anita's birthday, so we have a dinner out with friends one night and on Friday I'm taking her to get a facial at Skoah (more pampering)!  Tough life :)

Cravings:  Les oranges.

Symptoms/Labour Symptoms:  Funny thing, as soon as the baby shower was over, I started getting a TON of Braxton Hicks.  I have them on and off all day, pretty much every day since Monday.  They aren't regular or intense, so I'm not in labour just yet, but it is progress.  My doctor didn't do a cervical check this week but says he will start those next week to see if I'm progressing and in two weeks, when I'm 39 weeks along, he'll do a membrane sweep (if you don't know what that is, I'm not going to get into it).  Let's spare the gory details.  Basically it can bring the beginning of labour on, in about 1 in 7 women.

I'm still having a ton of round ligament pain, but fewer intense "attacks" from it - just a general inability to move around or be on my feet too much in a day.  No other progress towards labour just yet - but I will keep you all updated!

Baby shower photos ARE coming, I promise.  I have to upload them and still get a bunch from Anita before I can post them.
